I tend to neglect my houseplants though, and that keeps them well, I have deliberately chosen houseplants that are OK with water every 10-14 days. Between watering I don’t tend to them at all, leaving me to concentrate fully on my garden :-)

Happy New Year, all the best for 2016!HELENEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112289914239038835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-41328177648413638522015-12-31T21:32:59.153+00:002015-12-31T21:32:59.153+00:00Thanks Indie, the tea lights and the orbs were bot...Thanks Indie, the tea lights and the orbs were both a lucky find, I plan to swap the tea lights with miniature plants for the spring and summer, if I can manage to find any small enough to go inside the orbs – watch this space :-)HELENEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112289914239038835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-75222424967274194792015-12-31T21:32:51.382+00:002015-12-31T21:32:51.382+00:00Thanks, and the same to you, happy New Year! Thanks, and the same to you, happy New Year!HELENEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112289914239038835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-77838802995025013052015-12-31T21:32:43.924+00:002015-12-31T21:32:43.924+00:00Thanks Endah, my shlumbergera is just a baby still...Thanks Endah, my shlumbergera is just a baby still, I hope to get another one in white this year.HELENEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112289914239038835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-82282767314050492792015-12-31T21:32:36.502+00:002015-12-31T21:32:36.502+00:00And happy New Year to you too!And happy New Year to you too!HELENEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112289914239038835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-62783649686265679692015-12-31T12:18:09.901+00:002015-12-31T12:18:09.901+00:00We've had mild weather here too. The snow melts during the day and freezes again at night leaving the roads and sidewalks slippery.
Your little house looks so cozy with all the candles and Christmas tree lights. I envy you the few flowers in the garden. (It's been warm, but this is Canada! LOL) Your house plants and orchids look so well looked after. It makes me want to try again with orchids. I never seem to do well with them though.
All the best for the new year Helene!Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00116583212813729057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-50059910206654687382015-12-29T13:52:47.492+00:002015-12-29T13:52:47.492+00:00I love your bench full of houseplants! I water them about every 10-14 days, sometimes even less than that. And some of my plants have never had any fertiliser at all, but my orchids get a squirt of orchid fertiliser when they are watered.
Most people who kill their orchids water them too often - or never ever. If you water them more often than once every 7-10 days you are probably in the first category.

Hope you have a great Christmas and all the best for the new gardening year!HELENEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112289914239038835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-8533105614633015782015-12-27T01:18:56.386+00:002015-12-27T01:18:56.386+00:00Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you, ...Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you, Helene :-). I wish we had a little bit of your shower... it's much too warm here as well and we haven't seen any proper shower for a long, long, loooooooong time. Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog and of course, I will let you know. So kind of you! And I hope it will be possible sometime to see your lovely garden in real life :o). Probably we gonna spend our next summer holidays in Suffolk, my hubby wants to visit Duxford airfields... I don't mind because I love England, as you may have guessed :o). Have a Happy New Year and I hope, it will bring you a new furry friend... maybe even two :o).
Take care
AlexAlex aus dem Gwundergartenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17345838066384134549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-17742942429172289242015-12-26T03:54:21.772+00:002015-12-26T03:54:21.772+00:00No winter in sight over here yet, just lots of rai...No winter in sight over here yet, just lots of rain for the foreseeable future…..but a few clear days in between so I have to be ready to go out in the garden when the weather is OK. I need to find a good place for it in the garden, it is a rather big plant in a small pot. Have to think about what to plant next to it, something that comes up in the spring but goes away in the autumn would probably be best, utilising the space :-)
Merry Christmas!HELENEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16112289914239038835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265213687739263373.post-20560618692758714522015-12-26T03:43:12.289+00:002015-12-26T03:43:12.289+00:00Thanks Christina, I have always liked orchids and ...Thanks Christina, I have always liked orchids and I find it rather easy to get them to re-bloom, perhaps because in order to save money I turn my heating down at night and the orchids like this temperature change between day and night. If they have above 20 degrees 24/7 they are less likely to re-bloom. Perhaps that’s something you might look into? I keep some orchids in my bedroom while they are resting, waiting for them to develop a new spike and when they flower they can come into the living room again – my bedroom has a lower temp during the day too. Nothing fancy, I don’t walk around with a thermometer measuring this! I just know orchids prefer a distinct difference in day and night temp, and after 15 years of doing this I know it works for the type of orchids I have :-)

I hope you will get some rain with El Nino, too much and too little are both not what we want!
